Kingfish, or King Mackerel, can be caught nearly all year here in Naples. These are a pelagic species that cruise the surface, and when hooked up – they fight like a cruise missile.

Amberjack

Amberjack is another popular species here in the Naples offshore fishery, and are one of the targeted species during our offshore fishing trips. These are hard fighters that have been known to come to the surface, but spend most of their time on deep structure. Amberjack are also known as the “reef donkey”. As the name implies, they are found on reefs a majority of the time, and kick like a donkey when hooked up. These fish also get massive in size.

Amberjack’s will readily eat lures and bait. Naples is home to both migratory and a resident population of AJ’s. Amberjack fishing does peak during the winter months, generally from November through March.

Cobia

If there is one thing for sure, our anglers love catching cobia. This is another pelagic species that is a highly sought after offshore species here in Naples. This is another species that both readily takes both live and artificial baits, and puts up a great fight.

Cobia also make for excellent table fare. Whether broiled, grilled, or sauteed – these fish are a favorite for seafood lovers.

Naples Fishing Boats regularly targets this species, but there are better times to catch them throughout the year. For instance, the over winter months make a great time to target cobia
